Quick Facts of Gandhi Jayanti Festival-Birth Anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday in India celebrated on 2nd October. This day is celebrated in the honor of the birthday of the Father of the nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi or Bapuji. Internationally this day is celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence as Gandhiji was the preacher of non-violence. He is a symbol of peace and truth.

Gandhiji was born on 2nd October 1869, in Porbunder, a small town in Gujarat. He studied law in U.K and practiced law in South Africa. In his autobiography “My experiments with Truth” Gandhiji described his childhood and teen age years, his marriage with Kasturba at the age of 13 and a sheer dedication for his mother land. He has set an example of simple living and high thinking. He was against the addictions like smoking, drinking and non-vegetarianism.

Gandhiji was a pioneer of truth and non-violence. He started the 'Satyagraha' (non-violence) movement for the Indian freedom struggle. He played a very significant role in achieving independence for India from British rule. He proved to the world that freedom can be achieved through the path of total non-violence.

All the organizations throughout the country remain closed on this day. Special event is organized at Raj Ghat, New Delhi where Gandhiji was cremated. People do prayers, pay homage and sing Gandhiji’s favorite song “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Patit Pavan Sita Ram …”.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

About Sarvapitru Amavashya or Ashwin Amavashya

Ashwin Amavashya is known as Sarvapitru Moksha Amavashya and Sarvapitri Darsha Amavashya(No moon day). Most Hindus observe a fast on that day and offer food to their ancestors. On this Amavasyas, Shraadh is done to forefathers by Bhramins whose fathers have died.Usually people perform ritual on the name of their forefathers on a specific tithi on which they died but at times, some of them do not know the specific tithi on which the mortal being of their ancestors left the body, in that case, 'Sarv pitra Amavasya comes to rescue. It is a day dedicated to all the forefathers irrespective of the tithi they died. The souls of our ancestors are bound with their karma they did on earth, and in order to provide them moksha(salvation), one needs to perform the rites and rituals of shraddh. One can also donate food, clothes, money on the name of their loved ones in order to expiate them of their karma.Aswin Amavasya or sarv pitra Amavasya is considered to be the most auspicious and most powerful one for performing funeral rites and tarpan (libation of water). After fasting one can take a dip in the river and later worship Lord Shiva. On this day married women take the holy bath for happy family life and for the long life of their husbands. They also worship the pipal tree.

There is also a popular story that Karna who was a famous character in Mahabharata after death could not get food. He was known for charity and he gave people a lot of gold but not food. When Lord Yama saw his state he advised Karna to go back to earth and feed the poor. Karna got back to earth and fed the poor during the pitri paksha. This enabled him to get food in his life after death. This is exactly why many people even today feed the poor on these days so that their forefathers get peace in their after lives.

Durga Puja Speech and Essay

Good Morning Every one.Respected Principal, teachers and students.Today Durga Puja Festival. so I speak aboutr Durga Puja Festival.-----This starting line for Speech  and Essay and Speech conman Contain below.

Durga Puja is one of the main Hindu festivals. It is celebrated every year with lots of preparations to honor of goddess Durga. She is the daughter of Himalaya and Menaka and a transition of sati who later got married to the Lord Shiva. It is considered that this puja was started first time when Lord Rama worshipped the Goddess Durga to get power to kill Ravana.

Durga Puja is celebrated from sixth to ninth day of bright lunar fortnight (shukla paksha) in Ashvin. Tenth day is celebrated as Vijayadashami as at this day goddess Durga got victory over a demon. This festival marks the victory of goodness over evil power, a buffalo demon Mahishasura. People in Bengal worship Durga as Durgotinashini means a destroyer of evil as well as a protector of devotees. It is widely celebrated at many places in India such as Assam, Tripura, Bihar, Mithila, Jharkhand, Odisha, Manipur, West Bengal, etc. At some places it becomes five-days annual holiday. It is a religious and socio-cultural event being celebrated for years with complete devotion by the devotees. A huge Durga puja fair also held in the Ram-lila ground which attracts a big crowd of people.

Durga Puja is a nine days long festival. Days of Durga Puja celebration varies according to the place, custom, people’s capacity and people’s belief. Some people celebrate it for five, seven or full nine days. People start worship of Durga statue on ‘Shashti’ which ends on the “Dashami”. Some people in the community or society celebrate it by decorating a ‘pandal’ in the nearby regions. In these days, all the nearby temples become full of devotees especially in the morning. Some people do worship at home with all the arrangements and go for statue immersion to the river Ganga at last day.

Navaratri or Durga Puja is celebrated to tribute the victory of good over evil. It is believed by the devotees that at this day goddess Durga got victory over the bull demon Mahishasura. She was called by the God Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva to kill demon and make the world free of him. After many days of battle she finally killed that demon on the tenth day, the day is called as Dussehra. The real meaning of Navaratri is the nine days and nights of battle between goddess and devil. Durga Puja fair attracts a huge crowd of devotees and visitors including foreign tourists at one place.

The Navratri festival represents the devotion to the Goddess Durga. In Sanskrit, the term Navratri, literally denotes nine nights. The Divine Shakti is worshipped throughout these nine nights and the tenth day is celebrated as Vijayadasami added to the festival of nine nights that commemorates the victory of the Divine Shakti over the wicked demons. The Navratri celebrated in this period between September and October is also known as Sharada (Sharad) Navratri or Maha or the Great Navratri, Sharad denoting winter.

Navratri celebration is categorized into three parts, each part consisting of three days, first part for Durga, Goddess for power or Shakti, the second Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity and the final for Saraswathi, Maatha for knowledge and wisdom with the tenth day completed as a day of Vijayadasami. Throughout the nine days of Navratri, devotees observe fasting depending upon their customs and region with one-time meal alone and the rest of the day not taking anything other than the morning meal. They also offer Bajans or stotrams or prayers for prosperous and healthy living. In addition, Navratri, other than being a time opted for spiritual introspection and purgation is believed to be auspicious for commencing new ventures on the tenth day or Vijayadasami day. In Maharashtra and in some North Indian states, during Navratri on the first day, a pot called ghata sthapana or Kalasa sthapana has been set up in a holy place at home with a lamp lit up inside the pot for nine days. This represents the universe or earth and the lamp that has been lighted up continuously as medium for devoting the Goddess Shakti or Shree Durgadevi.

Navratri Festival Speech for Students

Here is Information about Navratri Festival Speech for Students.

Good Morning My School Principal Sir ,teachers and my Classmate and  dear students. My name is.....Today starting Navratri festival.I give a speech about this festival.Navratri is a popular Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Durga.Navratri festival is celebrated in the month of October/ November. The festival is celebrated twice a year, dates of which are determined according to the lunar calendar. During Navratri, people from villages and cities gather to perform ‘puja’ on small shrines representing different aspects of Goddess Durga, including Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati.

The festival is celebrated all over the country but with different names. North Indians celebrate Navratri by worshipping the idols of Goddess Durga. Pre-pubescent girls are worshipped as a symbolic representation of the deity. They are offered delicious food items and gifts. In Bengal, decorative ‘pandals’ are made and people visit these ceremonial pandals to worship Goddess in festive mood. In Gujarat, the nine nights of the navratri are celebrated with traditional local touch which has now become global. A traditional dance form ‘garba’ is done throughout the nine nights of celebration. Similar, festivals are celebrated in south India also.Navratri festival is celebrated during the time of year which depicts the transition in the solar and climatic influence. The navratri festival is celebrated to mark the expression of Goddess Durga in the form of Shakti (energy).

Navratri is more of a community event in Gujarat, where people perform devotional songs and dances that are popular by the names of 'DandiyaRaas' and 'GarbaRaas', and observe Jaagran (waking through the night), to please the Goddess. Navratri is celebrated throughout Gujarat in three ways: at Mataji's temples, in individual households and at public places in every city, town and villages by thousands of people - men, women and children - through drumbeats, dance and dandy (wooden lacquered sticks). While ritualistic aspect predominates the first two modes of celebration, social and cultural aspects are visible vibrantly in the last. The Amba Mata Temple at Junagarh, Gujarat, is a favorite pilgrim for devotees, during Navratri. Here, the Garbo, which is a perforated earthen pot with a lighted lamp within, is placed around which brightly dressed women, men and children move singing and playing a folk dance called garba. This earthen pot is a symbol of the human body and the lighten lamp inside signifies the divine soul Moving around a circle in a Garba indicates the never ending cycle of creation, maintenance and destruction phases of the supreme reality.

Dances of Dandiya Raas and Raas Garba Traditional Navratri Festival

About Garba Dance of Navratri Festival

The easiest and most popular Raas Garba dances are the “Be Taali” (2 claps) and “Traan Taali” (3 claps). Please see the below video for simple instructions on these Garba steps.

Other popular types of Garba Rass Dance are “Butterfly” (clapping and moving in a circle like a butterfly), “Trikonyu” (make a triangle movement), “Hudo” (raise hands and clap with a partner after 4 beats), “Popatiyu” (clap after 2 steps forward and 4 steps back), “Dodhiyu” (forward and backward movement to 8, 10, 12 beats), etc.

About Dandiya Rass Dance of Navrtri Festival

Dandia Raas is played with 2 decorated sticks which are touched with a partner’s sticks in a choreographed pattern. Usually, dancers form an inner and outer circle; one moves in a clock-wise and the other in a counter clock-wise direction. The inner and outer circle dancers partner each other in playing Dandiya Rass.

Different types of Dandiya Raas dance are “Five Steps” technique, “Seven Steps”, etc. “5 Step Dandiya Raas” is the most popular Dandia and the below video has easy instructions on how to play 5 Step Dandiya Raas.

The original folk dances of Garba Rass and Dandia Raas started as a depiction of the 9 day battle between Goddess Durga (“Ambaji”) and Mahisasura. With this in mind, the “Dandiya” (sticks) and the “Garba” style of dance make a lot of sense.
