Today 21st September Navratri festival starts for Hindu people.Navratri is usually a nine night festival that ends with Dussehra, the victory of good over evil, on the tenth day.Goddess Durga is venerated during these nine days in her three supreme forms.Goddess Durga embodies the representation of creation, power, and destruction. Her
blessings are bestowed on us in the form of Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati on Navratri.
In the first three days of Navratri, the Goddess is venerated as Durga, the following
three days, Lakshmi is worshiped and the concluding days are dedicated to Saraswati.
Ghatasthapana invokes the coming of Goddess Durga; therefore, special care is taken while performing the ritual. Ghatasthapana is prohibited during Amavasya and dark light. The same is going to be followed in Navratri 2017. It is believed that if such meticulous care is not taken, it would bring the wrath of Goddess Durga.
Navratri celebrations are seeped in traditional music and dance. Gujarat is the focus of Navratri celebrations with all night-long dance and festivities. 'Garba' is a devotional dance form that derives from the folklore of Lord Krishna singing and dancing with the gopis using 'dandiya' or slim wooden sticks. 'Raas Garba' has also evolved to include steps like 'Dodhiyu', 'Trikoniya', 'Lehree' and several others. What's more, with time, Navratri festival has seen changes in celebrations with well-choreographed dance performances, high-end acoustics and people dressed in made-to-order, bright costumes. Tourists flock to Vadodara in Gujarat to enjoy a mix of high-energy band music performances, singing and dancing.
