Indira Gandhi Jayanti is Celebrated birth anniversary of our First woman Prime minister of Indira Gandhi.Indira Gandhi Jayanti is Celebrated 19th November every year.This day is also known as National Integration Day.The celebrations of this day are mostly and primary limited to the political houses. Since Indira Gandhi was part of the Congress party, celebrations are huge under this party.on the other hand, in other political houses too, lots of works are carried out to celebrate this day. As she gave birth to several social reforms, so on this day she is remembered for that.

Indira Gandhi was born on Nov19, 1917 in Allahabad, U.P. She was the daughter of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and was the 3rd Prime Minister of India. She was very interested in Politics from her childhood days. She completed her higher education from the Oxford University and Vishwa Bharati University. She served India as a Prime Minister from 1966-1977 Year then again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984. Indira Gandhi was a prominent leader in the Indian National Congress.

Indira Gandhi got married to the Feroze Gandhi in 1942. She had also got an opportunity to become the member of Congress Working Committee in the year 1955. Indira Gandhi was considered as a great political leader. She was also selected as President in the year 1959. She also became a Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji’s Cabinet member as the Minister for Information. After an unexpected death of the Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966 in Russia, she was chosen as the PM of India

Indira Gandhi is also known for other important decisions like Nationalization of banks, Green Revolution, White Revolution, commencing of National Nuclear Program in 1967, etc. She is also credited with her dedicated efforts towards the nation by promoting agricultural productivity and introducing new economic policies, which helped in improving the economic status of the nation.

She judiciously handled the critical situation in the nation at the time of Indo-Pak war of 1971 and also decided about the independent Bangladesh country. A Central Govt. Low-Cost housing programme plan as “The Indira Awaas Yojana” for the rural people is named after her. The International Airport in New Delhi is also named after her. The largest university in the world name “The Indira Gandhi National Open University” in the nation is also named in her honour. Her endeavour towards the Independent nation’s growth is unparalleled.

Her famous publications include ‘The Years of Challenge’ (1966-69), ‘The Years of Endeavour’ (1969-72), ‘India’ (London) in 1975; ‘Inde’ (Lausanne) in 1979 and numerous other collections of speeches and writings. She travelled widely in India and all over the world. Smt. Gandhi also visited neighbours like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, China, Nepal and Sri Lanka. She paid official visits to countries like France, German Democratic Republic, Federal Republic of Germany, Guyana, Hungary, Iran, Iraq and Italy. Smt. Gandhi was one to visit majority of the countries like Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Czechoslovakia, Bolivia and Egypt. She paid visits to many European, American and Asian nationals like Indonesia, Japan, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Switzerland, Syria, Sweden, Tanzania, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, U.A.E., the United Kingdom, U.S.A., U.S.S.R., Uruguay, Venezuela, Yugoslavia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. She also marked her presence in the United Nations Headquarters.

She was very much interested in the music, literature and fine arts. She was awarded with the great Indian award Bharat Ratna in 1971. She has proved to be a fascinating leader of the modern India who has left an impression on the world affairs and the Non-alignment Movement. She was died on 31st of October in 1984 by the bullets of assassin at her residence.
