Ramzan Eid or Eid-al-Fitr Special Recipes-Seviyan Kheer-Sheer Korma-Shahi Gulab Phirni

Muslims all over the world celebrate Ramzan Id also called Id-Ul-Fitr with great jubilation on the first day of the Islamic month Shawwal. This day marks the end of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar, in which the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammed. Since the Islamic calendar is based on the moon, the month of Ramzan falls at different times each year. Muslims spend the whole month of Ramadan in fasting and penance. No food or drink is taken from sunrise to sunset on each day of the month. The completion of the month-long fast is determined by the appearance of the new moon, and is celebrated with enthusiasm as Id-Ul-Fitr, which means 'the fast is over'. In India, this Id is also called Mithi Id. The month-long fast culminating in this Id spreads a feeling of brotherhood. Muslims wear new clothes on this day, exchange gifts, participate in great fairs and watch stunning fireworks displays.

Ramadan Eid Significance - Muslims fast during Ramadan - History of Ramadan Eid or Eid al-Fitr - Images

Ramzan commemorates Prophet Mohammad's first revelation of the holy book of Quran.During the month-long event, practising Muslims observe roza, which is abstinence from food and water, from dawn till dusk and break their fast in the evening with a meal called Iftar. Iftar fare includes food, exclusively prepared for the occasion. Organised either within one's home or in a public space, it is a time for grand eating and merrymaking. Eid or Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramzan.

Ramadan Eid Significance

Eid al-Fitr signifies the completion of Ramadan, which is the holy month for the Muslim community. Muslims fast during this month for 29-30 days. Therefore, the festival of Eid al-Fitr symbolises the completion of fasting throughout the Ramadan month. Usually, the festival day shall fall on the opening day of the Shawwal month. The beginning date of the month of lunar Hajri fluctuates on the basis of the annotations of a new moon by religious bodies. The accurate date for celebrating the festival varies from locality to locality. Muslims entrust that they have been commanded by the God to fast during the Ramadan month. Other names of Eid al-Fitr include Eid ul-Fitr, Id-Ul-Fitr and Eid.

Why do Muslims fast during Ramadan ?

Ramadan is seen as a time of spiritual reflection, improvement and increased devotion and worship.Muslims are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam and this includes fasting - which teaches people how to be more self-disciplined and have empathy for those less fortunate. The pre-dawn meal before the fast is called the suhur, while the meal at sunset that breaks the fast is the iftar.

History of Ramadan Eid or Eid al-Fitr

Legend has it that in the year 610 AD when Prophet Muhammad was meditating on Mount Hira that Angel Gabriel appeared in front of him and referred him as Muhammad and pronounced him as the 'Messenger of God'. The Angel enlightened him on the preaching's of Quran and declared that he will be spiritual guiding light for men and women by spreading the message of Allah. It has been believed that this incident took place in month of Ramadan which gave rise to the formation of a new religion. Muhammad was at first very disturbed and misunderstood it as an evil forces. It took many people to convince him before he accepted and followed the spiritual path. Many of his followers have said that Muhammad used to be visited frequently by the seraph Gariel during the remaining years of his life to teach him the recitals of the Quran. He would often refer to the preaching's as a set of conventional rules that the Lord almighty would want his people on earth to adhere too and lead their lives based on these code of conducts. It was his strong belief that it was the only way that will lead a Muslim to path of righteousness. In the years to come Muhammad declared the month of Ramadan as the most holy days in the calendar and requested his disciples to pay homage to Allah for the divine knowledge given to them. He asked his devotees to observe a pious way of life by abstaining from taking food, devoting there time towards prayers and refraining from indulging in any kind of austerities. Thus, this how the festival came into existence and even today, holds great importance to the Muslim people.

Ramzan Id or Eid-ul-Fitar Date of 2018 - Ramzan Id Celebration

Ramzan Id or Eid-ul-Fitar Date of 2018

Eid al-Fitr in 2018 is on Friday, the 15th of June (15/6/2018).

Note that in the Muslim calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on the sunset of Thursday, the 14th of June.

Although Eid al-Fitr is always on the same day of the Islamic calendar, the date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year, since the Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar and the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. This difference means Eid al-Fitr moves in the Gregorian calendar approximately 11 days every year. The date of Eid al-Fitr may also vary from country to country depending on whether the moon has been sighted or not.

The dates provided here are based on the dates adopted by the Fiqh Council of North America for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Note that these dates are based on astronomical calculations to affirm each date, and not on the actual sighting of the moon with the naked eyes. This approach is accepted by many, but is still being hotly debated.

Ramzan Id Celebration

Ramzan is the Islamic holy month of fasting by Muslims worldwide.

Although worshipping Allah or God, can be done at any time during the year and no special day is ear marked for this, but still every religion has set about a particular date and time for fasting and prayers so that it can bring about maximum benefit to the one observing the fast or praying. This is because one needs to be reminded to thank the Lord and not forget His innumerable blessings bestowed upon us, in our daily hustle-bustle of house hold tasks or earning of livelihood. We need to take out time to thank Him for giving us the gift of life, for the breath that sustains life, for the food we eat etc. Also, while praying we should hope that when our life finally comes to an end, and His angels come to take us away from this Earth, we are granted paradise. But, it is not easy to appease the Lord-He too, likes to test His disciples. Only those who please Him with their devotion are granted His mercy.

And so, in Islam, Allah is worshipped in the Holy month of Ramzan. Ramzan or Ramadan is the special month in which followers of Islam regularly do the ‘Namaz’ and keep the rigorous fast called ‘Roza ‘in which not a drop of water is consumed for straight 12 hours. Although people keep fast in other religions too, but during Ramzan, the Muslims keep this strict fast for 30 continuous days. At the end of 30 days, only after the moon is sighted, is the fast broken.

Eid-ul-Fitr

The festival of Eid is celebrated at the end of the month of Ramzan. Although, during the entire month of Ramzan, alms are distributed among the poor, but on the day of Eid, just before the Namaz is read, this practice is reinforced and alms called’Fitra’ is distributed because of which this festival is also called Eid-ul-Fitr.

Muslims believe that in the Quran, Allah commands His followers to pay the ‘Zakat’ and ‘Fitra’ before offering the Eid prayers of gratitude to Allah.

Ramzan Eid or Eid-ul-fitr special Recipe-Sheer Khurma Recipe-Laccha Seviyan Kheer

Ramzan Eid or Eid-ul-fitr special Sheer Khurma Recipe

Integrates

4 cups of milk – full fat , whole milk
2 tbsp ghee
1 ¼ cup Sugar
½ cup vermicelli ( Semiyan)
¾ cup mixed nuts, chopped small – cashews, almonds, pistachios etc.
10-12 Golden raisins ( Kishmish)
½ cup dates seeded and chopped ( around 8-10 in number)
4 cardamoms, crushed to a powder in a mortar-pestle OR ½ tsp Cardamom powder
½ to 1 tsp rose water
Method

Heat a tbsp of Ghee in a wide pan, and roast the vermicelli ( seviyan ) on a low flame till golden. Transfer in a plate and keep aside
In the same pan, heat 1 tsp of Ghee and roast all the dry fruits ( nuts ) for 1-2 minutes on low flame. I skipped this step this time since I like the raw taste of nuts more. Once it’s done, transfer in a bowl and keep aside.
Chop all the dates small, taking the seeds out and keep aside.
Now, heat milk in a sauce pan and let it come to a boil. Then, lower the flame and let it simmer for 10-12 minutes till the milk thickens slightly.
Add the roasted vermicelli and mix. Let it cook for 5-7 minutes till Seviyan absorbs the milk properly and becomes soft.
Now add the sugar, nuts and dates and mix well. Keep it simmering for another 15-20 minutes till dates gets mashed up and the total quantity in the pan gets reduced to almost half of what we started with. Vermicelli should be all puffed up and soft by now.
At this stage, check the taste and desired consistency of the Sheer. You may add some more milk if you think its too thick, or some sugar if its less sweet. Do remember that this Sheer will thicken even more with time so adjust accordingly.
Finally, add the cardamom powder, stir and turn off the flame.
Garnish with more crushed dry fruits, saffron strands or even Rose petals if you wish . Serve hot and fresh

Add the sugar and condensed milk and cook for more 5-10 mins, stirring continuously
Add the saffron, fried cashew nuts and raisins and cook for another 2-3 mins

Ramadan Month Date 2018 | About Ramadan Month 2018

This Year Ramadan Month Start 26th May Friday and end on 24th June Saturday 2017.Ramadan  means the 'festival of breaking the fast'. Fitr is derived from the word 'fatar' meaning 'breaking'. Another connotation suggests that it is derived from 'fitrah' or 'alms'. Certain Sunni Muslims believe that Fitr comes from 'Fitrat' meaning 'nature' and Id-ul-Fitr is the celebration of god's magnanimity in providing nature to man.

In the morning everyone bathes, wears new or clean clothes, applies perfume, and eats dates or some other sweet before walking to the mosque for Id prayers. Men wear white clothes because white symbolises purity and austerity.

They believe that those who do not give alms on this day will not go to heaven after death. After offering alms, they go to the house of the 'Qazi' or the Chief Priest to request him to conduct the prayers. Then they all go together in procession to the chosen spot, and offer their prayers. After the congregational prayer, the Qazi speaks on religion, and finally prays to God to forgive them their sins and bless them all with health, wealth and prosperity.

Special prayers are offered on the Id day and Muslims in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad celebrate 'Ramzan' in the traditional manner by offering prayers in the mosques, and with the sacrifice of goats. It is an occasion of feasting and rejoicing. The faithful gather in mosques to pray, friends and relatives meet to exchange greetings. Prayers, family get-togethers and feasts are the major highlights of the celebrations. The family elders, conveying their blessings give 'Idi' or presents of money to the youngsters.

Muslims say their holy book came down from heaven to the earth one night during the last ten days of this month. When it came, the whole of creation praised Allah or God. It is also believed that Prophet Muhammad announced a day for celebrations to reaffirm the feeling of brotherhood.
