About Apara Ekadashi Vrat

Apara Ekadashi Vrat is observed in the month of Jayestha (May-June). This vrat is also known by other names such as Jayestha Krishna Ekadashi, Achala Ekadashi, Bhadrakali Ekadashi and Jalakrida Ekadashi. In some of the states of India including Punjab, Haryana and Kashmir, the name Badakali Ekadashi is popular since this day marks the appearance of Bhadrakali, the divine descent of Mother Kali.Observing Apara Ekadashi Vrat helps in attaining all the worldly luxuries, comforts, and is the key to become popular in this universe. Thus, this is the day when you can cherish name, fame, respect, and all the worldly pleasures.Apara Ekadashi Vrat is the giver of good deeds, destroyer of sins and one who observes the vrat with a full fast on this day attains great esteem and honor in this world. 

Apara Ekadashi Vrat Katha

Once upon a time, there lived a religious king named Mahidhvaj. His younger brother, Bhrajdhvaj, was a cruel, sinner and unjust person. He used to hate Mahidhvaj. One night he killed his elder brother. And he buried the dead body beneath a Pipal tree. Now he started showing violence to the Pipal tree. Accidentally, one day, a Rishi named Dhumya passed from there. Then, Rishi advised him to observe the fast of Apara Ekadashi and get free from all his sins, in order to live a peaceful life. 

Apara Ekadashi Vrat Puja Vidhi

Wake up early, take bath and offer prayers.
Offer fruits and Tulsi while worshipping Lord Vishnu.
Do not pick leaves from Tulsi plant on this day. (Collect leaves a day before.)
Visit nearby Vishnu temple.
Recite Vishnu Sahasranama or simply chant “Om Namo Narayana”.
Observe self-control, do Maun-Japa i.e. repeat Lord’s name in mind.
Arrange Satsang and Bhajan.

Apara Ekadashi Vrat Fast

Apara Ekadashi Vrat begins from sunrise and continues till the sunrise of the next day.
After completing all the basic activities of the day, take bath and wear clean clothes.
Offer prayers to Lord Vishnu with a clear mind, heart, and soul. Please the Lord with offering of Tulsi leaves and fresh fruits on Apara Ekadashi.
While observing Apara Ekadashi Vrat, avoid intake of grains, non-vegetarian food, and alcohol.
If you are observing a partial fast, you can rely on intake of fresh fruits, nuts, and milk.
Spend entire day of Apara Ekadashi in devotion of the Lord and chanting Mantras.
Break your Vrat on the next morning after taking bath and worshiping Lord Vishnu.
