When the Amavasya falls on a Monday, then it is called 'Somvati Amasvasya'.Somavati Amavasya , is no moon day that falls on a Monday in accepted Hindu schedule.This day holds utmost significance as you can perform several pujas and rituals.


On Somvati Amavasya, if you do the Tulsi parikrama 108 times, if possible. You can also, chant the 'Omkar mantra' and offer water and argh to the Sun God. About Somvati Amavashya

Somvati Amavasya is one of the festivals which come in the each year. It is a day of without moon in the sky at night so it is known as no moon day.
Somvati Amavasya is a day of worship to the supreme power of the world the “Lord Vishnu”. Lord Vishnu is most important deity of Hindu religion. According to Hindu mythology he is a lord who maintaining the whole world.
Somvati Amavasya is also celebrated as a worship day of “lord Shiva” and our dead ancestors too. Somvati Amavasya is also called as the name of Ama Somvar Vrata because on this day people from Hindu religion prays their lord for good health and peace. Somvati Amavasya is the day on which in ancient time of the country there was a character “Yudhistira” of a great epic Mahabharata had taken a Snkalp for his destiny. Sankalp Mantra is the prayer which followed by the people for good fortune on that day.

Somvati Amavashya the most important ritual associated with this day is bathing in sacred rivers.Its importance is told by Bhishma to Yudhishter that one who baths in sacred rivers,that will be relieved from disease. It is also called "Rog Mukti snan".Also the Amavasya is ruled by our ancestors and its signification increased many times when it coincides with Monday. 'Tarpan' performed on this day is considered very auspicious to get the blessings from the deceased souls.Charity done on this day is equivalent to donating thousands cows. Parikrama(revolve) around Peepal tree for 108 times is one of the important ritual. "Om Namo Bhagwatey Vasudevay" is the mantra which could be chanted while doing parikrama in a clockwise direction. Peepal tree is considered as the manifistation of "Tridev",the Brahma,Vishnu and Mahesh. Somvati Amavasya is equivalent to 100 eclipse which shows the importance of this day.This day is excellent for fasting for the longevity of happy married life.
