History of Goa Carnival

Based on the Christian tradition of Mardi Gras (also known as Fat Wednesday) which refers to the events of the carnival celebrations; Goa Carnival is a festival that celebrates the culture and cuisine of Goa on a grand scale every year.

Originating from the tradition of Mardi Gras, a tradition of hedonistic feasts and dancing & drinking bouts before the fasting and abstinence associated with penitential season of lent, Goa Carnival is a 4 day razzmatazz that is observed all through the state with great gusto and zeal.

Goa Carnival Celebrations

Goa Carnival is the most awaited event in Goa, preparations for which start from December itself. Other than music, dance and other entertainment, the carnival in Goa also features short plays depicting the tradition and culture of Goa in a unique way.Pre-Lent carnivals are a time for fun and Goa's carnival is revelry all the way. It's the last big bash before the season of Lent starts, and this is when Goa parties for five days, non-stop.

The Goa Carnival, true to form, is a time for unrestrained merrymaking with fashion, dancing, processions, music performed by both local and national level artists and unlimited food, with more than 70 stalls providing food and beverages, being part and parcel of the festivities.

The festival will kick start on the 8th of February with a Food and Culturalfestival with cooking competition being the main feature of the day.The opening ceremony with be held on the 25th of February 2018.

➤The flag should be a 3:2 aspect ratio rectangle.

➤Whoever in any public place or within public view burns/mutilates/tramples upon or otherwise brings into contempt the Indian National Flag or any part thereof, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.

➤A member of public, a private organisation or an educational institution may hoist/display the National Flag on all days and occasions, ceremonial or otherwise. Consistent with the dignity and honor of the National Flag.

➤The National Flag should occupy the position of honor when displayed.

➤A damaged Flag should not be displayed.

➤The Flag should not be flown from a single mast head simultaneously with other flags.

➤The flag shall not be dipped in salute to any person or thing.

➤The flag must not be used for any commercial purpose.

➤When the Flag is displayed on a speaker’s platform, it should be flown on the speaker’s right as he faces the audience or flat against the wall, above and behind the speaker.

➤When the Flag is displayed flat and horizontal on a wall, the saffron band should be upper most and when displayed vertically, the saffron band shall be on the right with reference to the Flag (i.e. left to the person facing the Flag).

➤No other flag or bunting should be placed higher than or above or side by side with the National Flag; nor should any object including flowers or garlands or emblem be placed on or above the Flag-mast from which the flag is flown.

➤The Flag should not be used as a festoon, rosette or bunting or in any other manner of decoration.
The flag should not be flown at half mast except on occasions on which such notice is issued by the Government.

➤When flown at half-mast, the Flag shall be hoisted to the peak for an instant, then lowered to the half-mast position, but before lowering the Flag for the day, it shall be raised again to the peak.

➤The flag must not touch the ground or the floor or trail in water.

➤The flag should be flown from sunrise to sunset (to the extent possible) irrespective of weather conditions. The Flag may be flown at night only under very special circumstances.

➤If the flag is damaged or soiled, it shall be destroyed as a whole in private, preferably by burning or any other method consistent with the dignity of the flag.

➤The flag shall be hoisted briskly and lowered slowly and ceremoniously.

➤Only flower petals can be held within the Flag before being unfurled as part of celebrations on special occasions on National Days.

➤Everyone present should stand in attention facing the Flag while it is being hoisted.

Swami Vivekananda is respected throughout the world as a spiritual genius.Swami Vivekananda was born Narendra Nath Datta to Vishwanath Datta and Bhuvaneshwari Devi, in Kolkata on 12th January, 1863.Swami Vivekananda was one of the most influential spiritual leaders of Vedanta philosophy. He was the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahansa and was the founder of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. Swami Vivekananda was the living embodiment of sacrifice and dedicated his life to the country and yearned for the progress of the poor, the helpless and the downtrodden. He showed a beacon of light to a nation that had lost faith in its ability under British rule and inspired self-confidence among Indians that they are second to none. His ringing words and masterful oratory galvanized the slumbering nation.

Vivekananda was a precocious boy with a sharp memory and also excelled in music, gymnastics and studies in his childhood. He was also interested in instrumental and vocal music.In 1879, Vivekananda went to the Presidency College, Calcutta University for higher studies. By the time he graduated from the college, he had acquired a vast knowledge of different subjects, especially Western philosophy and history. He was also associated with Brahmo Movement led by Keshab Chandra Sen, for some time. Vivekananda was always supported by one of his close friends Brajendranath Seal. In order to understand the intricacies of faith and spiritual insight both read the works of John Stuart Mill, Auguste Comte, Herbert Spencer and G.W.F. Hegel. He also questioned the validity of superstitious customs and discrimination based on caste and religion. During this spiritual crisis, Vivekananda first heard about Sri Ramakrishna from William Hastie, the Principal of the Scottish Church College. 

One day in November 1881, Vivekananda went to Kali Temple in Dakshineshwar where Sri Ramakrishna was staying. He straightaway asked the Ramakrishna, "Sir, have you seen God?" Without a moment's hesitation, Sri Ramakrishna replied: "Yes, I have. I see Him as clearly as I see you, only in a much deeper sense." Vivekananda was astonished with Ramakrishna's reply. He was also surprised to see a common simple man saying that "God can be seen". Apart from removing doubts from the mind of Narendra, Sri Ramakrishna won him over through his pure, unselfish love. Vivekananda started visiting Dakshineswar frequently and a relationship of "Master and disciple" developed between the two.

After Shri Ramakrishna's death, Vivekananda renounced the world and criss-crossed India as a wandering monk. His mounting compassion for India's people drove him to seek their material help from the West. Accepting an opportunity to represent Hinduism at Chicago's Parliament of Religions in 1893, Vivekananda won instant celebrity in America and a ready forum for his spiritual teaching.

For three years he spread the Vedanta philosophy and religion in America and England and then returned to India to found the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Good morning All, respected Principal sir, sir, madam, my seniors and my dear friends.Happy Republic Day of India.My name is…… I study in class…..Today  I would like to speech on this great annual occasion of Indian Republic Day. First of all, I would like to say a big thank to my class teacher for giving me such a great opportunity to speech here on the Republic day of India. My dear friends, we have gathered here to celebrate this special occasion of our nation. We celebrate republic day on 26 January annually to commemorate the day when Indian constitution came into force and India was declared as republic country.

I am very proud to be the citizen of India. At this day, we unfurl the National Flag of India and sing the National Anthem to show our heartily respect for our republic country. It is celebrated all over the country at schools, colleges, universities, educational institutions, banks and many more places. It was 26 January, 1950 when Indian National Constitution came into force. The period from 1947 to 1950 was transition period and King George VI became the head of state whereas Lord Mountbatten and C. Rajagopalachari became the Governors-General of India.

The Government of India Act (1935) was replaced as the governing document of India after the enforcement of Indian Constitution in 1950 on 26 January. The Constitution of India was adopted on 26th of November in 1949 by the by Indian Constituent Assembly however implemented later in 1950 with a democratic government system declaring the country as independent republic. 26 January was especially selected because on the same day in 1930 Indian National Congress had declared Indian Independence means Purna Swaraj. Rajendra Prasad became the first President of Republic India in 1950 after the adoption of Constitution.

A grand parade by the Indian army (from all three services) is organized in the national capital (New Delhi) as well as state capitals of the country. The parade of the national capital starts from the Raisina Hill (near to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the residential place of Indian President) and ends to the past India Gate along with the Rajpath. Together with the Indian army, states of country also take part in the parade (decked with finery and official decorations) to show their culture and tradition. At this day, our country follows the tradition of “Atithi Devo Bhava” by inviting a chief guest (PM, President or King from another country) on 26 January. President of India, who is the Commander in Chief of Indian army, takes the salute by the Indian Armed Forces. The Prime Minister of India gives a floral tribute to the sacrificed Indian soldiers at the Amar Javan Jyoti, India Gate. The celebration of republic day continues by 29th of January which ends after the beating retreat ceremony. At this day, every Indian shows his/her respect and Pride to the National Constitution.

Island Tourism Festival celebrated in Port Blair at Andaman and Nicobar Islands.The Island Tourism Festival, Andaman is arranged every year by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration for a minimum period of ten days during the winter months of December or January. This festival invites the tourists to watch performances of dance, music, drama and art & craft exhibitions. The rich marine life and the flora and fauna collection of the island are also promoted during the festival.

The main intention of the festival is to promote and propagate the culture and traditions of the native Andaman Islands. The festival has large number of visitors from the Government Departments and Private organizations from across the country. It is believed that this festival is to keep intact the local dance forms and music which are forgotten these days.Adventure enthusiasts also have an opportunity to enjoy aqua sports and parasailing while attending Island Tourism Festival in Andaman. Kids can enjoy the magic and puppet shows as well as take part in the baby shows too.Government agencies and private entrepreneurs from the islands and Mainland India also attend the exhibition organized during the festival.

The exhibition highlights the developmental aspects of these islands. Cultural troupes and artistes of national and international fame are invited to perform during the festival apart from performances by the talents of these islands including tribal. Water sports competitions like Nicobari Hodi race are organized.Other attractions are Magic show, Puppet show, Floating restaurant, Baby show, Dog show, Canoe Race and Scuba Diving. Highlights and Live Telecast of Island Tourism Festival 2017

The inaugural function is telecast live in DD Bharati and is beamed for telecast in many countries. The highlight of the festival at ITF ground is the exhibition depicting strides made by the Island Administration in various spheres and sale of general merchandise, food stalls, and stalls of interest to tourists, Floating Restaurant etc. The main focal point, however, is the performance of mainland artists especially reputed music bands, Bollywood singers, dancers, performers etc. Artists of East Zone and South Zone Cultural Centers are also invited by the Art & Culture department and performed simultaneously in outlying islands. Hasya Kavi Sammelan is also organized by the official language department of Administration to delight the crowd.

International Human Rights Day-About International Human Rights Day-History-Celebration

Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on 10th December. This day is celebrated internationally to honor 10th Dec 1948, when the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at Palais de Challoit, Paris after the experience of the Second World War. Human rights day was officially established in the meeting of United Nations General Assembly on 4th of December in 1950.All the member states and interested organizations were invited to celebrate this day. The High Commissioner office of the Human Rights was awarded by the Guinness World Record for the collection, translation (around 380 languages) and distribution of the worldwide announcement of the Human Rights.
