About Rama Ekadashi Vrat 

Rama Ekadashi Vrat is observe according to Gujarati Hindu calendar during the waning phase (Krishna Paksha) of the moon in Kartik month and According to English Gregorian calendar month of October-November.The Vaishnava Rama Ekadashi vrat is observed with great dedication and fervour in different parts of the country. It falls four days before ‘Diwali’, the grand Hindu festival of lights. Rama Ekadashi is also called as ‘Rambha Ekadashi’ or even ‘Kartik Krishna Ekadashi’. In the Hindu mythology, ‘Rama’ is another name for Goddess Lakshmi and hence on this day along with worshipping Lord Vishnu, devotees also offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that by worshipping the lord and following the puja rituals the person is bestowed with all the worldly pleasures and ultimately seeks ‘moksha’ or salvation.

How To Observe Rama Ekadashi Vrat

The story of Rama Ekadashi revolves around Prince Shobhana and his princess Chandrabhaga. Muchukunda was a famous and very powerful king apart from being a loyal follower of Lord Vishnu. Thus, his kingdom was popular all throughout the world. The king's daughter, Chandrabhaga was married off to Prince Shobhana. Prince Shobhana was very weak and hence, was not able to observe the Ekadashi vrats. But, the king strictly supported the Ekadashi fasting. In order to make for this situation, Princess Chandrabhaga asked the prince to return back to his kingdom. Nonetheless, the prince insisted on observing the fast. The Ekadashi period started and everyone started observing the fast. People even kept vigil. But, prince Shobhana got very weak and could not stand hunger and thirst anymore. As a result, he died during the course of the night. However, due to his determination and influence of observing the vrat, Prince Shobhana was enthroned the king of Devapura, the kingdom of celestial beings. The city of Devapura found place at the top of Mandara Mountain. Conversely, the kingdom was only temporary as the prince had observed the fast only once during his lifetime. One fine day, a holy saint from the land of King Muchukunda visited the prince. He was glad to receive him as he could enquire about his wife through him. He told him that he wanted his wifes hellp to make his temporary kingdom permanent as she had been observing the Ekadashi vrat since childhood. The saint the visited the princess and retold his conversation with the prince. Princess Chandrabhaga got excited and with the help of Sage Vamadeva, she went to the temporary celestial kingdom of her husband. Thus, due to the power of observing Rama Ekadashi, the couple was reunited and the kingdom became a permanent one. All devotees observing Rama Ekadashi should avoid consuming food items made from grains and rice. However, the other rules are the same as those associated with Ekadashi vrat.

About Shree Jalarambapa

Shree Jalaram bapa Was Born on the 4th of November 1799 ,on the seventh day of the bright half of the kartik,Vikram era 1856,in the village of Virpur,Gujarat,India.Jalaram bapa was a Great Saint in Gujarat,india. His father's name was Pradhan Thakkar and his mother's name was Rajbai.At the age of 16, Jalaram Bapa married Virbai but he was neither interested in household life nor in his father's business.

At the age of 18, Jalaram Bapa accepted Bhojalram as his Guru and with this Guru's blessings, he started "Sadavrat" a feeding centre, a place where all sadhus' and sants' and the needy could go and expect to be fed 24 hours a day. Both Jalaram Bapa and Virbaima started working for this holy place. Jalaram's strong belief was that "This was the Lord's order - This was the Lord's work - I am not doing anything for anybody - Lord has asked me to do this work - since it is the Lord's work, it is He looks after it and ensures that it functions". Actually that did happen - indeed the place functioned welland nobody ever returned from ‘Sadayrat' without being fed. One can question whether this can possibly be done by a single person - the answer is Yes. We argue and debate and yet probably would not come to a sensible answer - but then to do what Jalaram Bapa did one has to be a person of Jalaram's determination, with his patience and his love towards others.

Jalaram Bapa was 20 years when his saintliness acquired a great fame. There are stories of how he was put to tests for his qualities of patience, endurance, love towards others, his steadfastness of thinking - he did not change under any pressure - he came out of all those tests successfully. His fame spread and he was regarded and accepted as a saint. People started worshipping him and they came to him for guidance in difficulties, for blessings in real distress and discomfort.

It is said that once he was called out to see an ailing child struck with serious disease. Parents of this child believed that the cure was solely due to Jalaram Bapa's blessings - Jala was since called Allah. In another instance a person who was threatened to be imprisoned went to Jalaram for his blessings. This man was not only saved from such imprisonment but he decided to lead a normal honest life then onwards. Jalaram was then onwards addressed as Bapa - Father of all. There are numerous such instances that can be quoted from his books but the fact is that his feeding place was open and is still open today in Virpur where people go and are fed.

People go to Jalaram Bapa's places to offer prayers to him and seek his blessings for their personal grief, shortcomings and failures and many acquire relief and satisfaction.
Human beings during their span of life always aspire to be rich and acquire wealth - they pray for complete family life - it saints such as Jalaram Bapa who remain away from such desire and wants. In their lives they always give - even when they are gone they still give to those who ask from them with purity of heart and sincerity of purpose.

In 1934 during a terrible famine Jalaram Bapa worked very hard to feed those who were suffering. In 1935 Virbaima died and in 1937 Jalaram Bapa died while in prayers.
Such is the story of the life of this Great Saint of Virpur.

Narak Chaturdashi Vrat-How to Observe Narak Chaturdashi Vrat-Mantra-Aarti

Narak Chaturdashi, which falls on the second day of Diwali after Dhanteras, is celebrated as an important day in all Maharashtrian families.Narak Chaturdashi Vrat is a Hindu festival.It falls on second day of five days long Diwali celebration.Narak Chaturdashi or Kali Chaudas is also known as Roop Chaudas,Roop Chaturdashi,Krishna Chturdashi and Kali Chaturdashi."Kali" means Dark and "Chaudas" fourteenth.Narak Chaturdashi Vrat is celebrated on 14th day of the dark half of Ashwin month, just before one day of Diwali festival.Roop Chturdashi is celebrated to perform some Sadhana for gain and magnetism.

On this day, lighting lamps can destroy tamasik energies. The day before Chaudas, fourteenth day of the fortnight, after 12 a.m. the atmosphere starts getting polluted with raja-tama frequencies, because on this day the Universe moves from the Chandra-nadi (or the moon channel), into the Surya-nadi (or the Sun channel). This helps the tamasik energies in 'Pataal'. The sound waves generated from 'Pataal' are created by heat generated from movement of particles loaded with raja-tama components. To neutralize the effect of these waves, one has to bathe early in the morning, light ghee lamps in earthen pots and ritualistically worship them. The lamps radiate waves of particles charged with the fire element, which helps to destroy the raja-tama laden particles in the environment. Due to this, raja-tama particles present in the cells of tamasik energies also melt away, which helps to destroy the protective sheath around the tamasik energies. Hence, a soul begins afresh to perform any auspicious activity. On this day tamasik energies get annihilated, in a way amounting to destruction of negative frequencies emanating from hell. On this day special sadhnas are done for the aquisition of beauty and for this reason this day fast is observed as Roop Chaturdashi. In addition to that it is the special day of worshipping Kali and that is why termed as Kali Chaudash. Narak Cahturdashi is popularly known as Chhoti Diwali.

How to Observe Narak Chaturdashi Vrat

 

 

This fast is observed to abstain from the tortures of hell. On this day Lord Yamraj, Goddess Kali, Lord Krishna, Goddess Laxmi, Ganga and Durga can also be worshipped. This is considered an auspicious day for Mantra Siddhi also. It is believed that people, who do Abhyang Snan on this day, can avoid going to Narak. Til (i.e. sesame) oil should be used for Ubtan during Abhyang Snan.

How To Observe Ekadashi-Ekadashi Fast-Ekadashi Vrat Fasting Method-Ekadashi Pooja and Prayer

Ekadasi Fasting is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is observed on the 11th day of waning and waxing phase of moon in a traditional Hindu calendar. This is one of the most popular Vrat observed in Hinduism. How to observe Ekadashi was narrated to Arjuna by Lord Krishna and is found in the Bhavisyottara Purana.

When to start Ekadasi Fasting?

 

Lord Krishna advices Arjuna to begin the Ekadasi fasting in the autumn season with Utpanna or Uttpatti Ekadasi occurring during the waning phase of the moon in November – December.

Ekadashi Vrat Fasting Method

 

Ekadasi is the name of the Goddess that arose from Lord Vishnu to defeat Demon Mura. Happy with her divine act, Lord Vishnu blessed her that anyone who observes Ekadasi fast will be freed of their sins and will attain Moksha.

Some people only take a single meal on the Dasami day, the day before Ekadasi.

Things needed for Ekadasi Puja and Prayer

 

A picture or photo or idol of Lord Vishnu

Fruits

Tulsi leaves (The tulsi leaves should not be picked on the day but on the previous day)

Some Yellow bananas

And other normal puja items

Observance

 

Wake up early in the morning. Take bath and offer prayers.

Perform a simple puja to Lord Vishnu at home by lighting a lamp and offering fruits and Tulsi leaves.

Pray or meditate for few minutes.

If there is a Vishnu temple nearby visit the temple and witness morning pujas and rituals.

Complete fast or Upavas on the day is the main observance.

Ekadasi Fasting

 

Fasting is for 24 hours. It is believed that a partial or total abstinence from food on Ekadasi is rewarded with bliss.

If you have any health problem or are taking medicines, please consult your doctor before deciding on fasting. You can also opt for a partial fast by avoiding food made of rice.

Do not eat food made from rice on Ekadashi.

Strictly avoid eating rice and grains, honey, meat and eating on a bell metal plate. Do not apply oil on the day. (What food can be eaten on Ekadasi for those observing partial fast?)

Those taking partial fast can consume fruits and milk.

Jal Jilni Ekadashi Vrat Story

Legend has it that Lord Vishnu who is sleeping during the Chatur Mas period turned sideways from his supine position on Jal Zilani Ekadashi day.

Another legend associated with the day is that Lord Krishna took the Gopis in Vrindavan for boating and in return demanded yoghurt. So people donate and share yoghurt on the day.

Some devotees observe a strict fasting on the day. They do not take water. But most devotees observe the usual rules associated with Ekadasi fasting on the day.

As part of puja on the day, an idol of Lord Krishna is taken to a lake or river and worshipped. The idol is also taken on a boat ride on the river. Some people also carry the Ganesha idol installed as part of Ganesh Chaturthi festival and immerse it on the day in a lake or river.

It must be noted that Ganesh Chaturthi festival begins five days before Jal Zilani Ekadashi. Therefore some people immerse Lord Ganesha on this day.

Parivatini Ekadashi or Parsava Ekadashi or Vamana is observed in the month of Bhadrapad as per the traditional Hindu calendar, Parsava Ekadashi falls during the waxing phase of the moon or Shukla Paksha. AjaEkadashi Vrat is observed on the lunar day of Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha Ekadashi(day of eleven).Aja Ekadashi Vrat is an important festival dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu.Aja Ekadashi is also popularly known by the name of ‘Ananda Ekadashi’.

On the day of Aja Ekadashi devotees observe a fast in the honour of their deity, Lord Vishnu. The observer of this vrat should also eat ‘satvik’ food even a day before, that is on ‘dashami’ (10th day), in order to free the mind from all negativities.The observer of the Aja Ekadashi vrat gets up during sunrise on the day and then takes a bath with mud and sesame seeds. The place for puja must be cleaned. On an auspicious location, rice should be kept, over which the sanctified ‘kalash’ is placed. The mouth of this kalsah is covered with red cloth and an idol of Lord Vishnu is placed atop. The devotees then worship the idol of Lord Vishnu with flowers, fruits and other puja essentials. A ‘ghee’ diya is also lit in front of the lord.

Aja Ekadashi Vrat Katha

There was once a king named Harishchandra, who was well known for his honesty and noble manner. He was well respected by those in his kingdom. The famous sages Vashista and Vishwamitra however doubted the truthfulness of the king.

Vishwamitra declared that the king was not as truthful as everyone believed even though Vashista thought otherwise. The noble king respected the views of Vishwamitra and decided to renounce his kingdom and live a life of seclusion. He went and settled in Kashi where he became an undertaker, with a lot of grief in his heart.

During his stay at Kashi, Harishchandra came across another famous sage by the name of Gautama. He disclosed the reality about his plight to Gautama who lend a kind ear to the king. On hearing the sad story of the king’s life, Gautama advised him to observe a fast on the Krishna Paksh Ekadashi of the Bhadrapada month, known as Aja or Annada Ekadashi.

The king continued living his life truthfully and religiously and observed the fast of Aja Ekadashi with great devotion. The result of that was that Vishwamitra was convinced about the pious and sin-free nature of the king, and gave him back the right to rule his kingdom.

Miraculously, the king was also able to revive the lives of his dead son and his wife even returned to him. After that the pious king lived a happy life and ruled his kingdom in great prosperity. Thus is the greatness of the holy fast on Aja Ekadashi.

Story is about a rich and powerful king named Mahijit. His people used to love him alot. But the King was depressed as he did not have any child. He used to spend a lot of his time in worshipping Almighty but could not fulfil his wish of being a father. Once he happened to meet Rishi Lomesh. The sage told him that he is cursed to have no child due to a sin that he committed in his last birth. Upset by the words of sage, the King started to seek some sort of solution for his miseries. The great sage enlightened the King and guided him to fast on Pavitra Ekadashi. Both the King and his wife observed the fast with complete devotion.

The pious fast of the Pavitra Ekadashi made the King free of all his previous sins and the curse too. After the successful completion of fast, the King and Queen became parents in some time.

Kajli Teej, Badi Teej or Kajari Teej, is observed on third day after Shravan Purnima i.e. Krishna Paksha Tritiya in Bhadra month as per North Indian calendars.On this day women perform Sri Krishna Puja and neem pooja. This is the biggest of all three Teej festivals celebrated in the North. Kajli Teej is the festival celebrated to welcome monsoon season in grand manner. It is celebrated with utmost enthusiasm in Bundi.The Kajli Teej festival is one of the most popular festivals in Rajasthan. Though the festival is celebrated in various parts of Rajasthan but Kalji Teej festival of Bundi is most attractive.

 

Kajli Teej Vrat Katha

 

Goddess Parvati is worshipped by seekers of conjugal bliss and happiness. An elaborate procession is taken out in Jaipur for two consecutive days on the festive occasion, which is watched by people in large numbers. The Teej idol is covered with a canopy whereas the Gangaur idol is open.
Teej festival is celebrated all over the state with each region having its own unique touch. Kajli Teej of Bundi is different in several ways- while Teej is celebrated on the third day of the month of Shravana, in Bundi it is celebrated on the third day of the month of Bhadra.
The festival starts with the procession of goddess Teej in a decorated palanquin from the beautiful Naval Sagar. It passes through the main bazaars and terminates at Azad Park. The procession has decorated elephants, camels, bands, performing artists and colourfully dressed people.
The people who gather here from surrounding areas also get to watch and participate in the cultural programmes that are organised in the evenings. it provides a very good chance to see performances by local artists from Hadoti region.
Though the main function of Teej is held only on two days, the celebrations continue upto Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna.
To celebrate the auspicious occasion of Teej, women fast for longevity and healthy of their husband. They refrain themselves from water and food whole day and perform various rituals associated with the festival. In the evening a special Vrat (fast) katha is chanted. These are stories based on Hindu legends which are narrated to ladies who gather to conclude their fast ceremony. Teej Vrat Katha is very crucial feature of Teej celebrations.

Kajli Teej Pooja Procces

 

First collect some fine sand and make a pond of it as shown in the picture. It should be made properly so that water does not leak out from it. Then tie all the neem stems together neatly and fix it in the middle edge of the pond as shown in the picture. And then put red odhini on top of the neem stem. Then place Ganeshji n Laxmiji’s Idol near it. As you know, every puja is incomplete without them. 

Now, first make Swastik on the small pot of water (lauta) which is to be used for puja. Tie moli
or a red thread around it. Then stick some rice on the Swastik and some Gur and Sattu also.
And then in the same manner make Swastik where the puja is to be done. Place moli, rice, gur, sattu and a coin on it. Now first of all do puja of Ganeshji and Laxmiji. Mark their forehead with kumkum and rice.
Offer them moli, sattu, gur, fruits and coins. 

And then in the same way do Teej puja or Neem puja. Then offer Sattu to Teej Mata.
Pour some milk and water in the pond.
Then the married women have to give seven round dots of kumkum, mehndi and kajol each near the pond. And then unmarried girls have to give sixteen dots in the same manner explained above. Then they lit Agarbatti and Dipak to begin their Vrat Katha. After completing the Vrat Katha
women need to see reflection of all the things (sattu, fruits, coins and odhini ) which are offered
to teej mata in the pond. They also see Dipak and their jewelries in it.
After reading the Vrat Katha and singing the Teej songs they all bow down to Teej Mata to pray
and to get blessings from her. And then they Stand up and walk gently (Give Pheri) around the Teej
Mata three times.
