Maha Shivratri is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in reverence of Lord Shiva. This festival is celebrated every year on the 13th night/14th day of the Maagha month of the Hindu calendar.Maha Shivratri Festival is Celebrated grand celebration of different patr f india and different temples in India.On this day devotees wake up early, take a bath, wear fresh clothes and visit the nearest Shiva temple to give the ritual bath to the Shiva Lingum.continuous prayers are done throughout the day and night of Mahashivaratri. Devotees offer prayers and also observe a fast throughout the day. Jaagrans (nightlong devotions) are also observed in temples where large numbers of devotees sing devotional songs in praise of Lord Shiva. Devotees break their fast in the morning by having the 'prasad' offered to Lord Shiva after the prayers the night before.

  • In Ujjain in the famous temple of Mahakaleshwar Shiva's Llngum is worshipped with the performance of all the religious rites and rituals.
  • In Gujarat Somnath Jyotilinga Temple people fast on this day and visit temples of Lord Shlva. They offer milk and water to the Shiva Linga. In the evenlng Lotus flowers made of Desl Ghee are decorated around the Shiva Linga. 
  • In Andhra Pradesh, the Sri Kalahasteshwara Temple at Kalahastl and the Bhramaramba Malikarjunaswamy Temple at Srlsailam are thronged by pilgrims during the festival.
  • In Assam, the Umananda Temple at Peacock Island and the Sukreswar Temple on the banks of the river Brahmaputra become the hub of activity on this auspicious day. In Sibsagar, the capital of the erstwhile Ahom kings, hundreds of devotees from all over the state throng the Shiva Dol to offer prayers.

  • In Orissa Puri Shivaratri celebration at Lokanath Temple,is also quite popular. According to a legend popular in Orissa, long ago, Puri was a centre of Shiva worship. The story goes, Lord Ramachandra himself installed the Lingam in the Lokanath Temple. This lingam is kept submerged, in a vat of water. It can only be seen on Pankodhar Ekadasi, before Shivaratri, when the water is removed from the vat. On that day, thousands of devotees come for a darshan.

  • In West Bengal Shivratri has become almost a folk festival. Young unmarried girls observe day-long fast, keep awake the whole night, sing devotional songs and pray to Lord Shiva to give them good and virtuous husbands.
  • In Karnataka the Lingayats, the followers of the Lingayat cult of lord Shiva, observe this occasion with immense devotion and enthusiasm In Maharashtra on the occasion of Shivaratri all the temples of lord Shiva resound with Vedic mantras and shlokas. People observe a fast, keep awake at night and distribute alms, food and sweets amongst the poor.
  • In Maharashtra on this day of Shivratri every temple of Lord Shiv resounds with Vedic mantras and shlokas. These are recited during the Lord Shiva's "Abhishekh" which is the ritual bath given to the Shiva-Lingum. Fasting is observed, night vigil is kept, alms, food and sweets are distributed amongst the poor.

There are about 18 elephants take part in Jagannath Rath Yatra.Another important feature is the participation of Akhada Sadhus and Mahants and the numerous floats with different themes.Anothe acctractions are about 101 trucks depcting indian culcture,18 Bhajan Mandalis,Ras Garba,bands and others accompanied Lord Jagannath.Rath yatra start with Pahind vidhi(pay dbeisance by sweeping the path of Rath travel).Rath is halt with saraspur and return jamalpur temple where the local people offer 'Maha Bhoj' to the entire entourage of devotees of Lord Jagannath.All Ahmedabad city close this day and holiday.

A large namber of people to see rath yatra and take part rath yatra.Three chariots(Rath) Lord jagganath,Brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra visit all Ahmedabad city.Rath Yatra travel distance in ahmedabad is around 14 kms.During thid festival State administration has made unprecedented security arrangements as the procession will pass through some communally sensitive areas such as Kalupur, Prem Darwaja, Delhi Chakla, Dariyapur and Shahpur in the old city.UAVs, CCTV cameras and 20,000 policemen have been pressed into service to ensure that both the festivals are celebrated peacefully in the city.When the procession moves through the narrow streets of the city, people sprinkle rice and gulal on the idols to pay their homage.

The devotees participating in the Yatra are given prasadam, in the form of raw sprouted moong beans. Quite a number of times, the floats are hand pulled by the devotees, crying out loud the name of the Lord.In the earli morning 4:00 Am arrange Mangala Aarti in Jagannath temple ,after 4:30Am Special Khichadi Bhog,Lord Jagannath is come to chariot around 6:00 Am ,at 7:00 Am RathYatra Start at around 6:30 Pm and Rath Yatra return at Jamalpur Jagannath temple.
