The Ekadashi of Chaitra Masa Shukla Paksha is called the Kamada Ekadashi.Kamada Ekadashi falls in the month of Chaitra during the waxing phase of the moon (Shukla Paksha) according to the traditional Hindu calendar.The word ‘Kamada’ means ‘fulfilment of all desires’. With the potential of eradicating one’s sins and mistakes, Kamada Ekadashi helps in attaining Swargaloka (heaven) after death. This meritorious fast is also known to bless the married couples with the pleasure of having their own child.
The devotees keep fast for the entire day and are forbidden to take rice. They sing prayers and do ‘Japa’ and devote the entire day in the name of Lord Vishnu. The Hindu society especially the Vaishavas celebrates this festival. Two ekadashis occur in one month considering the position of the moon. This is considered to be an auspicious time and if one wishes to commence some new event, then this is the perfect day.
