 About Utpanna Ekadashi






Utpanna Ekadashi, also known as Utpatti Ekadashi, is observed during Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the Hindu month of Margashirsha.As per the Gregorian calendar, the date occurs somewhere in the month of November or December.The day of Utpanna Ekadashi is devoted to Lord Vishnu and Maa Ekadashi. It is believed that by following this day with sincerity, one can surely attain a step closer to salvation or Moksha.

Utppana Ekadashi celebrates the victory of lord Vishnu over a demon named ‘Murasura’. Furthermore according to the Hindu legends, the birth of Ekadashi Mata took place on Utpanna Ekadashi. In the northern states of India this ekadashi is celebrated during the month of ‘Margashirsh’, whereas in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra, Utpanna Ekadashi falls during the month of ‘Kartik’. Also in the Malayalam calendar, the month is ‘Vrischika Masam’ or ‘Thulam’ and in the Tamilian calendar it is observed during the ‘Karthigai Masam’ or ‘Aippasi’. The main deities of Utpanna Ekadashi are Lord Vishnu and Mata Ekadashi. 


How To Observe Utpanna Ekadasi



Following are the rituals that are to be followed on Utpanna Ekadashi:

  • Lord Vishnu and Maa Ekadashi are worshiped on this day.
  • Ekadashi Vrat (fast) is observed on the day of Utpanna Ekadashi. The fast is terminated the next day  i.e. Dwadashi.
  • Lord Krishna is worshiped during Brahma Muhurat.
  • You should make donations to the persons in need.

A special Mantra, Vishnu Mantra is chanted on the day of Utpanna Ekadashi to invoke the blessings of Lord Vishnu:


"Shantakaram Bhujagashayanam padmanabham suresam
Viswakaram gagandrusm meghavarnam subhamgam
Lakshmikantam kamalanayanam yoogihrudwasa gamyam
Vande Vishnam bhavabhavaharam Sarwalokaika natham".



Importance of Utpanna Ekadashi




 


Get liberation from all the sins committed during present and previous births.
Attain Moksha.
This fast is equals to fasting for all three Lords Brihma, Vishnu and Mahesh.
The virtues obtained by making donations on this day are equal to that of Sankranti.
