Pateti is the Parsee New Year's eve.It is celebrated some time in August-September.On the day of Pateti, the Parsees visit their temples.Sandalwood is offered to the Holy Fire.The houses are decorated on the occasion.Rangoli(patterns made on the ground with colored rice flour) adorns the threshold of every Parsee household.Flower garlands are hung on the door.The next day they wish each other a happy new year.Six days after Pateti, the Parsees celebrate Khordad Sal.Khordad Sal is the birthday of Prophet Zoroaster.On all festivals, Parsees wear clean clothes, worship at temples, and feast and visit each other.Charity is also important for the Parsees.
Parsees from one of the smaller community in India.They originally came from Iran.Over a thousand years ago, they settled in India on the western coast.When the Arab conquered Persia, the majority of the population converted Islam, and the Parsees were not allowed to practice their religion.So they left their country and came to India, where they were free to practice their religion.
Zoroster is the founder of the religion.The supreme deity is Ahura Mazda.Fire is consider holy by the pareses.The sacred fire, which is believed to have been brought by Zoroaster himself from heaven, is kept continually burning in the temples.The majority of Parsee population is settled in Mumbai, where they have their main temples.Some of their important festivals pateti and Khordad Sal.
