It is the month in which the famous Kumbh Mela (held every 12 years) and the Magha Mela (an annual event) takes place at Triveni Sangam (a confluence of three rivers) in Prayag or Allahabad. It is a great bathing day, and as important as Kartik Purnima for the practice of piety and devotion.On this day a fast is observed and charities are done. The day of Magh Purnima is dedicated to Lord Satyanarayana. An offering to Gods and Goddesses are made with mixture of wheat and sugar roasted well. Lord Satyanarayana is also offered supari, banana leaves, pan, fruits, til, honey, moli, ganga jal, roli, sweets, kumkum etc. Devotees after taking a bath worship Lord Vishnu on the day of Magh Purnima. The prayers and rituals are conducted just like Makar Sankranti. Hindu devotees indulge in charity and donations to Brahmanas who are considered much sacred on this particular day.

Many people observe fast and do charity on this day. People offer food, clothes, money to the poor. Libations are offered to ancestors on this day after taking a dip in the rivers. Then Brahmans are fed and given "Daan- Dakshina" according to one's capacity. Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day after bath. Like all other purnima days, Satyanarayana Vratham is observed on this day. In some places Goddess Parvati Devi and Bruhaspati (Guru) are worshipped on Maha Maghi day.
